Grids have always been popular with the bashing fraternity but they have been in some danger recently as the Red Death (Class 66s) have led to major withdrawals of the engines. The future now looks a little brighter for the class with several stored examples being returned to traffic, thanks in no small part to the CTRL construction work demanding a large number of 66s. Nevertheless, preservation efforts are being stepped up as EWS seem to be charging rather higher prices than used to be the case and fund raising has become a very high priority.
