SNCB 5147 stands at the head of T8983, the Blankenberge - Maubege, at Blankenberge on the 6th April 1996.
This summer only service provides a rare opportunity to travel behind Belgian diesels in France, albeit not very far into France. It has periodically been worked by pairs of Monceau 62s but during 2000 and 2001 was a solid 51 turn, running top and tail from Mons to Maubege and back. This normally meant that the rear engine on Saturday worked the main train on Sunday and resulted in most of the Monceau dot 51s working during the course of that summer.
What the summer of 2002 will bring remains to be seen, the influx of class 41 units may not have reached Charleroi yet but it is only a matter of time ...
